I don’t start with any preconceived ideas but rather trust the process to dictate the direction of the work. Each mark or layer of paint influences the next. I let the painting find its own rhythm, sometimes energetic, sometimes quiet and contemplative.

 

Drawing and composition are strong elements of my work and I use gestural and expressive lines. My colour choices are inspired by both the African and Australian landscapes.

 

I like to work in layers. Either thin and translucent revealing aspects of the painting’s development, or thick and opaque hiding the past but always leaving enough information for the viewer to find new and interesting aspects of the painting.
